About Rosemary Galton
Rosemary studied violin, piano and voice from a young age and achieved ABRSM Grade 8 in all three. At age 18 she was awarded a choral scholarship to Clare College, Cambridge University where she studied mathematics. She then continued her vocal training with an MMus at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, specialising in historical performance, and the Morley College Opera School.
Since then she has had 15+ years experience as a performer, both as a consort singer and soloist, working in the UK and Europe. She has worked with many distinguished ensembles such as the Huelgas Ensemble, Gabrieli Consort, Tenebrae, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
She relocated to Nelson in 2021 with her husband and young daughter.
Skills and expertise
Rosemary has taught privately to a small number of students for ten years, and loves to share knowledge and expertise. In her teaching she aims to approach each student as an individual and tap into their own passion to find what inspires them to succeed.
She takes a holistic approach to the voice, and draws on the vocal pedagogy of teachers such as Janice Chapman (GSMD) and Jenevora Williams (The Thinking Voice).
Rosemary is particularly interested in teaching adults, but also happy to teach children of all ages, with a focus on classical repertoire. She can also teach vocal ensemble classes, sharing her expertise in one-per-part singing.
Rosemary also teaches beginner and intermediate violin.
Suitability
Rosemary is happy to teach all ages. Beginners welcome, but ideally with some ability to read music
