About Fiona Ingram

Fiona began learning her musical skills as a child, playing the piano and participating in kapa haka, where she learnt to harmonise and play the guitar. Twenty-five years ago, she moved to Nelson to study music on the Contemporary Music Performance course. Since then, she has worked as a performing arts teacher in intermediate and secondary schools. As a songwriter, she has performed her songs in Nelson and the top of the South Island at the Nelson Acoustic Routes folk club. In 2023, she wrote, directed, and produced the Clifton Terrace School show, based on the story of “Kupe and the Wheke.” Fiona teaches various instruments in private lessons and currently runs the Clifton Terrace School choir.

Skills and expertise

Fiona seeks to instil enthusiasm and joy in making and sharing music, whether in a private or public setting. She tailors programmes to meet the needs of her students, taking each one through a scaffolded programme of skills and songs. Students can also choose songs to learn. Fiona integrates short, active activities for younger children and more complex musical pieces for older children. She loves sharing music with others and looks for opportunities to bring students together musically by playing together.
