Music therapy at the Nest
Building relationships, connection & communication through the journey of music
What is the Nest?
The Nest is a dedicated music therapy space at NCMA, created to support children and families through individualised music therapy. Music therapy uses music-based interaction to support communication, emotional regulation, connection, and overall wellbeing. Sessions are tailored to each child and shaped around their strengths, interests, and needs. The Nest is designed to be calm, welcoming, and accessible, with consideration for children who experience sensory, mobility, or emotional challenges.
About Emma and 'Emma makes Music'
The Nest is led by Emma Matthews, a registered New Zealand music therapist and the founder of Emma Makes Music.
Emma brings extensive experience working with tamariki and families across a range of settings. Her work is evidence-based, child-led, and grounded in strong relationships with both children and their wider support networks. NCMA is proud to support and host this work as part of our wider commitment to inclusive music-making.

How sessions work:
Book a sessionThe Book a session link is for an initial consultation only. This offers families a chance to meet Emma, discuss needs and goals, and explore whether music therapy is the right fit. Ongoing sessions are then arranged directly with Emma and tailored to each family.
