NZ Young Piper of the Year 2026
An evening of exceptional young piping talent, live competition and Celtic entertainment.
The NZ Young Piper of the Year is back in Nelson for its 8th edition, and you’re invited to experience an evening showcasing some of New Zealand’s finest young bagpipers.
From 6:00pm, the stage comes alive for the prestigious Under 21 March, Strathspey & Reel Championship, where talented young pipers from around New Zealand will compete for the title of NZ Young Piper of the Year 2026 and the $1,000 cash prize.
Performed live on stage and in front of an audience, this is a fantastic opportunity to see the skill, precision and musicality of the next generation of New Zealand pipers.
But the competition doesn’t end there!
Following the formal championship, we’ll move into a more relaxed ceilidh-style Freestyle Medley, where pipers of all ages are invited to take to the floor and showcase their creativity. Expect plenty of impressive playing, musical surprises and a great atmosphere as the evening takes a more informal turn.
We’ll then round out the evening with the announcement of the 2026 NZ Young Piper of the Year.
