NBS Live Lounge: Can’t Sit Still

To kick off the Ceol Aneas Irish Music Festival, we will have an Irish Music Night at the NBS Live Lounge tonight!

Can’t Sit Still is an Irish traditional music trio from Wellington that has come together specifically for this Live Lounge event, arriving in Nelson with a suitcase full of high energy reels and jigs, bouncing polkas, and soulful songs.

The line up is Em Griffiths, Thomas Stonehouse and Richard Tait – skilled lead players from the world famous Welsh Dragon session, and well known within the NZ Irish music scene. They have played together for around a decade, developing skills, knowledge and love for Irish music. They live and breathe Irish trad and love to share its infectious energy with other people.

Em is a performer and teacher who plays driving fiddle, as well as mandolin, mandola and singing in a variety of groups including the Wellington/Nelson-based Triske. Em has recently completed a successful North Island tour with the recognised Irish composer and guitarist, Dave Flynn.

Tom is a highly experienced and tasteful bodhran player who weaves rhythmic lines to complement the melody.  Tom has a long track record of providing music for dancers in set dancing and ceili circles, right from when he was old enough to hold the drum.

Richard drives the pulse with his banjo and other fretted strings. He has played ceilis and a range of other performances with different ensembles, and has been a previous banjo/mandolin tutor at Ceol Aneas.
