This year marks the 50th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Nelson and Miyazu. We celebrate this special milestone through music, bringing our two communities together in a shared cultural experience.
This commemorative concert highlights the beauty and richness of Japanese music. Audiences will enjoy traditional melodies, well-loved Japanese songs, and the powerful, rhythmic energy of taiko drumming. From gentle, expressive piano pieces to dynamic ensemble performances, the program showcases the diversity and spirit of Japan’s musical heritage. Music has the unique ability to connect people beyond language, and this concert is designed to create that meaningful connection.
The program features pianist Kyoko Takashima, whose expressive performances bring elegance and depth to every piece she plays. She will be joined by a Japanese choir, a vibrant taiko drum team, and special guest artists who will add their own unique voices and talents to the celebration. Together, they will create an inspiring and memorable musical experience for audiences of all ages.
We warmly invite the community to join us in honoring 50 years of friendship between Nelson and Miyazu. Through music, we celebrate not only the past 50 years, but also the many years of friendship still to come.
