Description
Is there a basket of shakers and triangles at your centre that rarely sees the light of day? Do you want to learn to tune those kindy ukulele?
Designed for Kaiako, educators, home schoolers and interested parents or grandparents this hands-on, 2-hour workshop builds your confidence to lead playful, accessible musical experiences.
Through simple rhythm games, storytelling, singing, and improvisation using instruments, books, movement, AAC and everyday materials, you’ll leave with a practical toolkit to nurture connection, communication, and joy.
Because music is a universal language, this workshop focuses on making musical play inclusive for ALL tamariki. You’ll discover how to easily incorporate core boards, visuals, and sensory-friendly strategies into your music sessions to support, engage, and include every communicator in your space.
No prior musical experience required!
About the Facilitator:
Emma Matthews, is a Registered Music Therapist (and ECE trained teacher) Â who spends LOTS of time visiting local schools, Kindergartens, and early childhood centres. As well as working with kaiako around supporting neurodiverse learners, Emma sees firsthand both the incredible potential and the common hesitations surrounding musical play. Because of their music therapy background, Emma looks at music not as a performance, but as a powerful, universal tool for connection, emotional regulation, and total communication.
Emma is passionate about making music accessible and equitable, specialising in incorporating core boards and visual aids directly into musical play to ensure every child can participate. Emma is excited to help you take the intimidation factor out of writing and playing music, empowering you with practical, stress-free tools you can use at your centre immediately.
