About John Coulter

Dr John Coulter has 30 years experience as a lecturer in sound recording and production, songwriting, sonic arts, contemporary composition, and music theory. He was previously the Head of Composition at the School of Music University of Auckland (2022) and is the author of Sonic Entanglement: Multimodal Listening in Sound-Based Music. His creative interests include performance-based contemporary music and sonic art, multichannel acousmatic music, environmentally driven music and art, instrument making, and sound therapy. John completed a Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Queensland in 2009 and has presented his work in several countries throughout the world including Australia, Canada, China, France, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
