Tribute to Keith Jarrett and Mike Nock
Nick van Dijk will celebrate two giants of jazz piano as part of the NCMA lunchtime concert series.
Keith Jarrett is arguably the greatest jazz pianist of modern times who reinvented solo jazz piano by improvising whole concerts fusing classical, folk, jazz into musical sculpture. Jarrett recently suffered a stroke and hasn’t performed in several years.
NZ’s Mike Nock took this lead and forged himself a unique path as a composer and player on the world stage. Nock, still busy gigging in Sydney has ties to Nelson and has been lauded as a NZ cultural treasure. Of this concert Nock said to van Dijk “I wish I could be there. Remember it ain’t whatcha, it’s howcha”
Former Waimea Collegian Nick van Dijk is a professional musician over three decades, has played internationally and taught jazz at the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington.
