Description

Calling all players of Irish flute, tin whistle, fiddle, tenor guitar, mandolin, and tenor banjo! Join this fun 4-week course and learn a couple of traditional jigs and reels with an experienced teacher in a hands-on group setting.

The course is designed for musicians who are proficient on their instrument (intermediate to advanced level), although the ability to read music is not required.

Musicians playing other instruments are also very welcome, although a higher playing standard may be required, as Brendyn is unable to provide the same level of instrument-specific guidance for instruments outside his own expertise.

Brendyn Montgomery

Brendyn is a traditional Irish musician and is widely regarded as one of the country’s leading performers and teachers of Irish flute, whistle, and fiddle.

In 2003, he completed an M.A. in Traditional Irish Music Performance (First Class Honours) from the University of Limerick.

Brendyn has performed at major folk festivals in Australia and New Zealand, including Woodford Folk Festival, the National Folk Festival (Canberra), Auckland Folk Festival, Wellington Folk Festival, and Whare Flat Folk Festival. He is also a regular tutor at Ceol Aneas in Nelson.

Dates: August 1, 8, 15, 22
