About Rebecca Bignall
Rebecca was born and raised in Nelson. She commenced dance at the age of 5 years, studying Jazz, Tap and Ballet. A former student of Gillian Francis and Helen Brown, she went on to pursue full time tertiary Ballet at the International Ballet Academy in Christchurch. Rebecca joined the Southern Ballet Company in 2005, performing lead roles such as Swanhilda in Coppelia, Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker. With achievements including the IDTA NZ scholarship and Solo Performance Diplomas in Jazz and Tap NZAMD, Rebecca directed her own successful studio, Rebecca Bignall Boutique Dance Company, specialising in Classical, Contemporary, and stylised Jazz training. Rebecca holds registrations as a teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance and New Zealand Association of Modern Dance. She now brings her extensive dance background and passion for ballet to the NCMA community.
Skills and expertise
Rebecca teaches using the internationally recognised Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, drawing upon her expertise as a former professional dancer and studio director. She holds registrations with the Royal Academy of Dance and New Zealand Association of Modern Dance, equipping her with the skills to deliver high-quality Classical Ballet training. With a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Primary Education) and 10 years of experience as a part-time school teacher, Rebecca combines her passion for education and ballet. As a regular adjudicator across New Zealand, she eagerly shares her knowledge and love for ballet with the NCMA community in Nelson.
