Elgee Leung

Before moving to New Zealand, Elgee has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral cellist, and conductor in Hong Kong, Europe, and China.
With over eighteen years of diverse teaching experience in instrumental and orchestral training, he is keen to contribute to Nelson’s musical scene.

Elgee Leung believes learning classical music is a journey to learn about one’s true self through a narrow glimpse of expression amidst giant pillars of great musical traditions established in the past four centuries of Western music history. He teaches students to become musicians but not instrumentalists, to play music but not notes, and to be able to create one’s interpretation but not to follow others’. He teaches students of all levels.
