About Dayna Sanerivi
After a successful start to gaining her Bachelor of Musical Arts at the Christchurch Jazz School, Dayna’s studies were cut short due to the Earthquakes in 2011. Moving to Nelson in 2012 provided a fresh start and she quickly became involved with the Jazz Club and other musical projects.
Shortly after arriving in Nelson she started a 70’s tribute duo called SoulD where she played the drums and sung alongside keyboard maestro Barry Korchewski.
From 2014-16 Dayna worked as the Itinerant Singing Teacher at Waimea College before opening her own singing studio at Bay City Sound.
Dayna has been involved with the Smokefree Rockquest since 2014 and has had various roles such as judge, mentor, and assisting in event management.
Dayna recorded an album called Source with Producer Ben Lemi of Trinity Roots, and became a regular performer of original music around town.
She spent 2017-18 managing a local recording studio.
Working as a professional musician, she has sung on many different stages including the Nelson Jazz and Blues Festival, The Nelson Fringe Festival, The Granary Sessions for The Arts Festival, on The Pacific Jewel Cruise Ship, and she’s toured Australia singing for The Nomad, just to name a few highlights.
These days Dayna performs regularly as a solo piano bar entertainer.
Skills and expertise
Dayna has always been very passionate about music and she loves seeing other people enjoying music too. She’s flexible in her teaching style and enjoys approaching each student with a view to meet them at whatever level they’re at, and to assist them in meeting their individual goals.
Along with the traditional practice of developing good techniques, running scales and working on tunes, She has a range of skills that she can incorporate into her lessons which include mentoring, preparing for live performances, song writing and basic music production on Logic as well as the recording of demos to track the students progress.
Over the past 5 years in her work as a private vocal coach, she has taught a wide variety of students at all different levels, from 10-80 years old.
