Damon Smallman
Guitar Maker – Australia
At a very early age, Damon played on the floor of his father Greg’s (Smallman’s) workshop with guitar-making tools watching, listening and soaking up information. Eventually learning how to make guitars with these philosophies and principles.
Surrounded by a family atmosphere of making, building and improving things while growing up in the remote bushland of Australia, Damon developed his great practical passion for understanding how things work. Out of necessity of their remote harsh environment, Damon also learnt how to repair and create almost anything with practically nothing. Damon has a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Newcastle
N.S.W. specialising in advanced materials and composites. Making guitars with his brother Kym and Greg while constantly learning and searching together for ways to improve the sound continues to be extremely challenging and rewarding. Since 2018, Damon and his wife Ingrid Riollot travel the world together giving lecture demonstrations on the history and design of the famous Smallman Guitars. Smallman guitars have been played for more than 40 years by many world-renowned classical guitarist

Miles Jackson is one of New Zealand’s most accomplished guitarists. He began his musical training on the violin, changing to classical guitar in 1965. He has studied with a number of distinguished teachers and several periods in Spain have allowed him to explore and develop considerable expertise in Flamenco techniques. However most of his work has been with violinist Margarita Jackson as Duo Jackson. They have given concerts and workshops in many countries, made numerous TV & Radio broadcasts and recorded many albums of their music. Miles founded the Goya ensemble – strings and guitar- and has given many concerts featuring chamber music for guitar. More recently his focus has been on Trio Jackson – two violins and guitar.
