About Tomas Watson

I grew up in Nelson. I learnt the clarinet and performed in orchestras and bands throughout my school years. During secondary school I began learning the guitar and became fascinated with the instrument. I quickly began to develop a love for blues guitarist such as B.B. King and Robert Johnson. I then went on to attend Victoria University to further my studies. I currently teach privately and at a two local primary schools, and at NCMA.

I primarily teach beginners up to intermediate level players. Beginners will learn fundamental skills such as understanding the fretboard, transitioning confidently between chords and developing a strong grasp of rhythm. More advanced students will incorporate lead lines and soloing into their playing. There will also be more emphasis on theory and how to apply it.

My expertise is fingerstyle and blues guitar but I can teach range of styles including pop and rock.

My overall aim is to encourage a lifelong passion for guitar and ukulele and individualise lessons depending on my student’s needs.
