Nelson Civic Choir presents St Cecilia Mass & Choruses
There is something for everyone to enjoy in the Nelson Civic Choir’s performance of Gounod’s Messe Solennelle de Sainte-Cécile (St Cecilia Mass) and a selection of well-known choruses, performed by over 100 singers and musicians.
The choir and orchestra, with distinguished vocal soloists and instrumentalists, will perform under the baton of Nigel E. Weeks.
Gounod’s Messe Solennelle de Sainte-Cécile (St Cecilia Mass) was his first major work, dedicated by the composer to Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians. The Gloria and Credo are famous for their drama, power and memorable melodies.
The second part of the concert features a selection of choruses that includes Mozart’s Ave Verum, Handel’s Zadok the Priest, and Verdi’s Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves.
