Join us for a celebration of the award-winning performances presented in the Nelson / Marlborough District Rounds of the NZCT Chamber Music Contest 2018. This programme will showcase the musical achievements of some of our region’s most promising young musicians.
Students from secondary schools across the region enter the Contest to experience, compose and perform chamber music and strive towards excellence. With the support of their music teachers these young musicians relish the opportunity to work together in small ensembles, combining their technical skills and personal responses to the music.
This year’s Nelson / Marlborough Chamber Music Contest adjudicator, Emma Eden (french horn, Auckland Philharmonia) started her musical career playing in a school brass band in Timaru and was a keen participant in the South Canterbury contest rounds.
“We never won but it was so much fun! My goal now is to empower young people to find their passion and go for their goals.”
This iconic secondary school music event, held annually throughout the country attracts around 1500 students in over 400 groups and continues to be a highly significant experience from which many of our most successful musicians and composers launch their careers.
