Nelson Jazz Quartet & Nelson Jazz Club Big Band
Come and enjoy an evening of fabulous jazz. We will start with the cool tones of the Nelson Jazz Quartet, Gabor on Keys; Chris Cowles on Bass; Gabor Irmalos on Drums and Simon Williams on Sax, then we will add the sophisticated style of Tessa Quayle whose voice has been described as having a “milky sparkle” who “scats and purrs” her own unique flavour of various jazz styles.
After the interval you will hear the 18-piece Nelson Jazz Club Big Band lead by musical director Simon Williams, play a diverse range of big band favourites with the wonderful vocalist Dan Moon at the helm. Dan will charm you with his sultry tones as he takes the big band and wraps it around his little finger. The big band has been playing around the Nelson region and further afield since 1981.
Tessa Quayle released her debut album “Whisper Not” in 2010 which has been described as an “engaging album” that should put jazz in New Zealand back on the map” This album was a finalist in the New Zealand Jazz Album of the Year Awards for 2010.
