NCMA Lunchtime Series: Brahms Piano Quintet
Brahms Piano Quintet – The One That Got Away
This concert is a performance of the Brahms piano quintet in F minor Opus 34 which will be a special lunchtime occasion presented by local musicians; Fleur Jackson and Juliet Ayre (violin), Christine Foote (viola), James Donaldson (cello), and Mary Ayre (piano) ‘The One That Got Away’
The group formed in 2018 to perform the Schubert “Trout” Quintet with double bass player Paul Gilmour. Enjoyment of playing together led them to plan future piano quintet projects, the Brahms Quintet being the first of these.
The piano quintet is a powerful vehicle for grandeur and drama, combining as it does the self-sufficient entities of the piano and the string quartet.
