Nelson City Council, with Nelson Centre of Musical Arts and Multicultural Nelson Tasman, presents a series of weekly encounters with music and musicians.
Music Mix is a chance for people to discover the universe of music, from voices and strings to percussion and theatre.
These events are designed for people to explore music and opportunities to further pursue their interests.
Sessions are free to attend, and the audience is encouraged to sing, play music, and interact with the musicians.
Lloyd Houghton – Banjo, Debra Houghton – Fiddle
Lloyd has been playing banjo off and on for over 50 years. He started playing in the 3-finger bluegrass picking style. When he moved to Canada in 2012 Lloyd discovered old-time music, a precursor to country music. In this genre the banjo is played in a style known as clawhammer.
Lloyd moved back to Nelson in 2019 and now he and his wife Debra, who plays fiddle, meet with a small group of friends playing both traditional old-time tunes and his own compositions.
