Lunchtime Concert: Violinist Juliet Ayre & Cello
Violinist Juliet Ayre with Cellist (TBC) explore the Kodály Duo and Ravel Sonata for Violin and Cello.
The genre of the duo is diverse, driven at one extreme by curiosity or virtuosity, at the other truly inspired developments in art music. In their respective contributions Hungarian Zoltán Kodály and Frenchman Maurice Ravel harness significant technical demands behind works integral to two seminal artistic movements in the early 20th Century: nationalism and impressionism. Both composers draw on the natural intimacy and potency of the string duo to project remarkably vivid character and vibrant musical colours.
