Chapel Choir of Christ’s College, Cambridge UK

The acclaimed Christ’s College Chapel Choir from Cambridge UK is touring NZ in July 2024, following the success of their 2019 tour.

Choir Director Prof David Rowland says: “Coming to NZ is always a treat for the choir. The choir numbers around 24 singers and is supported by two organ scholars and myself as the Director of Music. The choir’s recordings feature on the BBC’s broadcasts and each year it performs concerts in the UK and abroad, most recently in the USA and Canada. Performances in NZ will include music from the sixteenth century to the present day, including established church music repertoire and music by contemporary composers.”

Christ’s College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Cambridge UK and has had a chapel choir since its foundation in 1505. Recent recordings and concert reviews stand as testament to its ability and broad repertoire.

The choir’s raison d’etre has, since its inception, been to sing services in the College Chapel with Choral Evensong sung twice weekly during full term.

Today, as one of Cambridge’s finest mixed-voice ensembles, the group pursues an exciting range of activities outside College, performing concerts in Cambridge and around the UK, recording CDs, broadcasting and undertaking major international tours each summer.

The concert will be an aural delight embraced by Nelson Cathedral’s excellent acoustics.
