CANZ Public Concert

Every year the Composers Association of New Zealand (CANZ) holds an annual, four-day composition workshop in Nelson for 30-40 young and emerging composers together with performers, mentors and observers. Participants get the opportunity to hear their compositions professionally rehearsed, performed, recorded and discussed in a collegial environment. Alongside the workshop sessions, seminars and presentations provide a platform for new music research and discourse around compositional practice. This year is the 37th annual event of this nature.

This concert is the culmination of the workshop and involves the participant composers, mentors and performers present at this year’s workshop. New-music specialist Erika Duke-Kirkpatrick will be joined by TrioNique (piano, saxophone and flute), Mark Menzies on violin, Justin DeHart on percussion, James Webster and Al Fraser on Taonga pūoro and others, performing stand-out pieces from the workshop and recent work from the mentor composers present. A unique concert that should not be missed.

Entry is by donation/koha.
