Scholarship Competition

One of the highlights of the year for NCMA students.

The NCMA Scholarship Competition is an annual event for NCMA enrolled students who are taught by our accredited teachers. Students perform and compete for monetary prizes in a wide range of categories, according to instrument and age.

Held in September each year, competing for a “scholarship” encourages our musicians and speech and drama students to:

  • strive for excellence
  • work towards a performance goal
  • be critiqued by an expert adjudicator
  • gain a valuable performance opportunity in an authentic setting
  • prepare for external exams and NCEA assessments.

We have well over 100 students performing in over 10 different categories each year, ranging from speech and drama through to instrumental and vocal, catering for beginners to experienced musicians.

Although our competition is primarily for our young musicians, open categories mean that anyone, of any age can take part.

All students receive participation certificates and an adjudicator’s report. Winners receive a monetary prize and a certificate.

All NCMA students are invited to enter the Scholarship Competition in August each year.
