Biography

Nick graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Victoria University of Wellington in 2019 where he also studied piano under Dr. Jian Liu.

Nick has performed at the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music in Germany and received an international premiere in Estonia for the ISCM World Music Days, he has been commissioned to create original performances for the Christchurch Arts Festival and Performance Art Week Aotearoa.

Nick has studied composition privately under Ross Harris and Samuel Andreyev and received a number of grants and awards from Victoria University of Wellington.

Skills and expertise

Nick teaches in an open and relaxed way, incorporating theory, sight reading, and improvisation into the learning process, he encourages students to compose their own music; practically implementing the theory they’ve been learning and helping to discover their own unique creative voice.

Nick tailors his lessons to the specific needs of each student, he believes in facilitating a life-long passion for music, whilst instilling a great performance technique and broad understanding of musical genre.

Nick enjoys teaching all ages and working with adults.
