Biography

John started learning piano and singing when he was 8.  He learned trumpet and trombone from the age of 10, through to the end of high school, performing in school production bands and local orchestras.

John was awarded Southland Bass Player of the Year in 2001 & 2010 and Southland Vocalist of the Year in 2006 & 2009 and was a Southland Entertainer of the Year nominee 2006-2009.

John has performed in many covers bands on drums, bass and guitar, and has worked in backing bands for Country Music Awards, the “Pipin Hot” backing band, and many Southland Musician’s Club events from 2001 until 2010.

John currently performs in Kramit – and, as a group, they were named Southland Band of the Year in 2009 and their second album “The House of Kramit – The Next Session” was Southland Album of the Year in 2010.

Skills and expertise

John has experience with teaching Out of Hours music classes in Winton.

He worked as an itinerant music tutor at Southland Boys’ High School from 2001-2004, teaching guitar, bass and drums, and at Verdon College from 2002-2004 teaching drums.

John currently teaches guitar, bass guitar, drums, vocals and theory and is also available to teach trumpet and trombone.
