Biography

Andreas has a lifelong interest in music and started playing the guitar as a child.

After immigrating to NZ from Germany in the 90s , Andreas studied drums with Chris Pierson before he completed the contemporary music course at The School of Music in 2005.

Andreas started teaching in Nelson in 2004 around local schools and privately.

In 2013 Andreas designed and built his own home studio for his afterschool students and his own band work.

Over the last 20 years Andreas has been a very active member of the local music scene playing in the well known local band Gentle Giant as well as having played for the local jazz club, Nelson Big Band and theatre and school productions. Andreas also studies the Cello.

Skills and expertise

Andreas has been teaching in Nelson for the last 19 years around local schools as well as privately from his home studio.

He teaches total beginners up to advanced students.

A good starting point is correct posture behind the set and optimal finger grip of the sticks.

Andreas beginner lessons start with some simple coordination exercises and basic beats.

For more advanced students Andreas will offer a well balanced curriculum studying different drumming styles, techniques and drumming influences of different drummers and bands.

Andreas encourages his students to do trinity drum and bass guitar exams ranging from grade 1-8.” The improvement of the student preparing for an exam in regards to timing, technique and ear training is amazing!”

Andreas acknowledges the individual development of each student , keeping the lessons focused and fun.
