Christmas at the Cathedral
- This event has passed.
Nelson Civic Choir & Orchestra present a celebratory programme of music in Nelson Cathedral to coincide with the Nelson Cathedral Christmas Tree Festival, and the theme of light and hope.
The choir and orchestra, with vocal soloists and instrumentalists, will perform under the baton of Nigel E. Weeks.
Part l of the programme features John Rutter’s Requiem, a monumental work, written in 1985, which is considered his most beautiful and exquisite composition. The Requiem, frequently played since its composition, stands as a clear sign of humanity’s quest for solace and light amidst the darkness and troubles of our age.
Part ll of the programme offers a selection of Christmas music, ranging from lovely traditional carols such as Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Good King Wenceslas, and The Shepherd’s Pipe Carol to old favourites like The Christmas Song and I’ll be Home for Christmas.
Greg GiIpin’s arrangement of Let It Snow adds a fun element to the concert, and the choir ends with Adolphe Adam’s O Holy Night, and the reminder of the theme of light and hope that Christmas brings:
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices For yonder breaks a new glorious morn.
